Multi-factor authentication is an electronic authentication method in which a user is granted access to a website or application only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of verification evidence.

Robeson Community College uses Microsoft's MFA as its preferred security mechanism. Download the Microsoft Authenticator app for the best enrollment experience.

The application icon looks similar to this:

The Authenticator App can be found in your iOS App or Android Play store. You can also use the following QR codes to locate the software.

The Authenticator App is not required. However, you will have a better MFA experience using it.

Enrollment

Enter your full e-mail address into the username field.

Enter your current password.

You'll get a prompt asking you to complete your enrollment.

Your experience might be different if you already provided information prior to today.

By default, you should get a Microsoft authenticator wizard with a few options.

There is a hyperlink to download the mobile app and a link to select a different authentication method.

We will demo both options below.

Authenticator App Option

You will need to have an Internet connected tablet or smartphone with the Microsoft Authenticator App to use this option.

Click Next to begin.

The best experience will be a push MFA notification within the app. To add your profile into the app you will receive a custom QR code.

Do not share this QR code with anybody.

Within the App, select the + (add) button to enroll your college account.

Select the QR code button and allow the app to use your device's camera while using the application.

Hover the camera over the QR code and your profile will automatically appear.

Contact the help desk if you have errors or issues during this phase.

Your account is successfully added if you see the below screen.

One the mobile app you will have your first request to approve a login. This is a test to verify everything is working as expected.

In some cases your tablet or smartphone might be unavailable. i.e. left it home, out of power, etc...

Before you complete your enrollment, you should setup a backup option besides the mobile app.

It is highly recommended you use your office telephone number. If you're a student, select an optional cellphone or home telephone number.

You have the option for a telephone call, personal email, security questions, or SMS text message. Complete this step to ensure you do not get locked out of your account.

*The help desk does have an option to provide you with a one-time-password (OTP) if the two options are unavailable to you at the time you try to login.

This process is lengthy and should only be used as an emergency.

Whatever method you select you'll need to verify the option by entering the PIN that was sent to you as a test or by filling out the questions with answers.

You are now enrolled into MFA and password reset for Robeson Community College.
